A symposium on practical education in undergraduate program of mechanical engineering was held in the meeting room of the Department of Precision Instruments and Mechanology on January 6.
Topics covered at the symposium included how to probe new models for practical education and how to strengthen existing programs.
President Gu Binglin spoke at the symposium, saying that an educational program designed to meet practical needs of a field is important for developing students' innovative sense, and it also is a crucial part in the overall process of talent cultivation.
He said that the modern-day development has created new challenges for practical education. Therefore, Tsinghua should set more effective and sustainable policies for the expansion of practical-oriented programs.
President Gu praised the practical education programs carried out in the School of Mechanical Engineering. He said that the School has a good tradition of fostering such an educational approach, and he hoped it can do more in the future.
Also attending the meeting was Director of Academic Affairs Chen Yongcan, and staff who oversee practical education in schools and departments such as School of Mechanical Engineering and the School of Aeronautics and Aviation.
